Head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers may be stumbling toward a disappointing end to the season, but fans in Baton Rouge can find hope in the program’s promising future.
Currently, LSU boasts the 4th-ranked recruiting class for 2025, highlighted by quarterback Bryce Underwood, cornerback DJ Pickett, and running back Harlem Berry — all ranked among the top 20 prospects according to On3. The Tigers’ largest commitment, quite literally, is 330-pound defensive tackle Zion Williams, who pledged to LSU back in July.
However, Inside Texas’ Justin Wells reports that Williams is planning an unexpected trip this weekend from Lufkin, Texas, to Austin to watch the Texas Longhorns face the Kentucky Wildcats. Though it’s an unofficial visit, the news has fueled speculation about whether Williams, who previously had Texas on his shortlist, might be reconsidering his commitment to LSU.
Williams quickly put those rumors to rest with a definitive statement on X: “I’m not going anywhere other than LSU. I was just trynna watch some good games and if you didn’t hear it from me it ain’t true.”
Losing Williams, the 26th-ranked defensive line prospect for 2025, would have been another tough blow for LSU during a rough stretch. The Tigers, who began the season 6-1, have dropped three consecutive games.
With two games left, LSU will look to finish strong. This Saturday, they’ll host a Vanderbilt team that is bowl eligible for the first time since 2018, followed by a season finale against the struggling Oklahoma Sooners in Baton Rouge.
