The New York Yankees made a splash on Tuesday night, acquiring outfielder Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs. Bellinger is expected to immediately anchor the middle of the lineup while patrolling center field. Shortly after the trade, FanSided’s Chris Landers assembled a “dream lineup” for the Yankees, which included a surprising addition: Minnesota Twins infielder Carlos Correa.
Correa, currently in the third year of a potential 10-year contract, has been a polarizing figure, particularly for Yankees fans due to his history with the Houston Astros during their sign-stealing scandal. Landers acknowledged the potential backlash, writing, “That sound you hear is the collective groan of Yankees fans at the prospect of Correa, a long-time nemesis with the Houston Astros, wearing pinstripes. But we know the Minnesota Twins are shopping him as they look to shed payroll this winter, and there simply aren’t a ton of other compelling infield options available right now.” He also highlighted Correa’s strong offensive performance last season, including a 155 OPS+, and downplayed concerns about his durability, noting that he’s played at least 135 games in three of the last four seasons.
While the idea of Correa in the Bronx is intriguing, it seems highly unrealistic. Correa’s massive contract would require the Twins to cover a significant portion of the deal, which complicates any potential trade. Moreover, his contentious history with the Yankees stemming from his time in Houston adds another layer of skepticism. Though Correa’s bat and experience would undoubtedly boost the Yankees, the financial and emotional baggage makes this scenario unlikely.
