If the Milwaukee Brewers are looking to make a move in free agency, adding another infielder could be a smart choice.
With Willy Adames now with the San Francisco Giants, the Brewers’ likely plan is to shift Joey Ortiz to shortstop. While not a certainty, it seems to be the simplest solution. If that happens, third base would open up. Caleb Durbin could step in to fill the spot, but he has yet to make his MLB debut.
To bring in a veteran presence, the Brewers should consider former Chicago White Sox infielder Yoán Moncada. Once one of baseball’s top prospects, Moncada is now a nine-year veteran at just 29 years old.
Previously on a five-year, $70 million deal, Moncada is now a free agent and is projected by Spotrac to command a much lower contract, potentially just over $1 million this offseason. When healthy, Moncada has the potential to hit over 20 home runs and maintain a batting average close to .300. His combination of affordability and upside makes him a strong candidate to provide a boost at third base for the Brewers.
