The Boston Red Sox made one of the most notable trades of the offseason by acquiring All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet. At just 25 years old, Crochet earned an All-Star selection in 2024 during his first full season as a starting pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. He impressed throughout much of the year, though his second half was marked by a more restricted innings load. Despite this, he continued to perform well.
Crochet wrapped up the season with a 3.58 ERA over 32 starts, accompanied by an impressive 209 strikeouts to just 33 walks in 146 innings. He has proven to be a standout talent and will provide the Red Sox with the left-handed ace they need.
Boston brought Crochet in with the knowledge that he is under team control through 2027. However, there has been considerable speculation regarding the potential for a long-term extension. Given the trade’s cost, securing him for the future would make sense for the Red Sox.
Though it’s unclear whether a deal will happen, the two sides are reportedly in talks about a contract extension, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. Cotillo noted, “When the Red Sox acquired Crochet in mid-December, they aimed to extend him beyond 2026, his final year of control. Discussions have already taken place regarding an extension, although it’s uncertain how close they are to an agreement. Both parties are focused on a one-year deal to avoid arbitration, with preliminary talks about a longer-term deal also taking place.”
Hopefully, the Red Sox and Crochet can finalize a deal soon.
