The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up to defend their World Series title and have taken steps to strengthen their roster. As part of their moves, they agreed to a trade with the Cincinnati Reds, acquiring rookie Mike Sirota in exchange for second baseman Gavin Lux.
Lux’s decade-long tenure with the Dodgers comes to an end, marked by recent struggles with injuries. After recovering from an ACL injury, he had a tough first half at the plate, hitting .213 with a .562 OPS. Despite expectations to return as the Dodgers’ shortstop in 2024, Lux transitioned to second base, earning $1.22 million for the season.
A fresh start closer to home
In an interview with Dodgers Nation, Lux shared that the trade news was difficult to process.
“Obviously, for the last nine or 10 years, the Dodgers are the only thing I’ve known … At first, it was a bit shocking. It’s a big deal; there’s a lot going on,” Lux said.
Now with the Reds, Lux could join their infield rotation as both a second baseman and shortstop. He sees the move in a positive light, as it brings him closer to his family in Wisconsin.
