Nebraska football is competing with the Michigan Wolverines to secure one of the top offensive tackles in the transfer portal, Shiyazh Pete, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Pete would bring valuable experience to the Huskers’ offensive line, having logged over 1,800 snaps during his three years at New Mexico State. A standout player, he was named to the 2023 All-Conference USA First Team. Despite not taking the field until Week 8 of the 2024 season, Pete played at left tackle and stands an imposing six-foot-eight, 287 pounds.
Revamping the offensive line has been a priority for Nebraska through the transfer portal. They recently added Alabama offensive tackle Elijah Pritchett to help fill the void left by departures like Bryce Benhart. Meanwhile, the status of Turner Corcoran and Teddy Prochazka remains uncertain after both suffered season-ending injuries in 2024.
Adding a lineman of Pete’s caliber would undoubtedly strengthen the Huskers’ offensive line. Nebraska has been proactive in addressing roster needs through the portal, making this recruitment one to watch closely.
