CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney introduced Tom Allen as the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator during a media session Wednesday afternoon, where both explained the reasons behind Allen’s decision to join Clemson.
Allen, a former Indiana head coach, spent the 2024 season as Penn State’s defensive coordinator. Swinney, who recently dismissed Wes Goodwin after three seasons in the role, sought an experienced play-caller and found that in Allen, a veteran with 33 years of coaching experience.
Allen brings regional ties to the program, having previously worked with Clemson offensive line coach Matt Luke at Ole Miss. Additionally, Allen’s family played a role in the move, as he has one daughter living in Greenville and another in Charlotte. The opportunity to work under Swinney, who shares similar values, also strongly appealed to him.
