Earlier this month, the Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with their wide receivers coach, Wes Welker, after three seasons. During his time in that role, Welker helped elevate players like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to some of their best seasons in the NFL. However, following a disappointing 2024 season, the Dolphins are making changes.
Miami is now in the process of finding a replacement for Welker, with ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques reporting that the team has interviewed Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Robert Prince for the position. Welker, who had a brief playing stint with the Dolphins in the 2000s, transitioned into coaching with head coach Mike McDaniel’s staff after his playing career. He spent three seasons in Miami, culminating in the 2006 campaign, before joining the New England Patriots and becoming a star. He retired in 2015 after a short stint with the St. Louis Rams.
Prince, who has extensive experience coaching wide receivers, has been with the Cowboys since 2022. Under his guidance, the Cowboys made the playoffs in his first two seasons, benefiting from strong offensive performances. However, the 2024 season marked a dip in production, with Dallas scoring just 350 points over 17 games—an output not seen since 2018. Their average of 20.6 points per game ranked them behind 20 other NFL teams.
After a challenging season, the Dolphins are seeking solutions, and Prince could be the right candidate to help them turn things around.
