Alabama football is losing a four-star recruit, as high school running back Anthony Rogers has decommitted from the Crimson Tide. Rogers, who is one of the top prospects in Alabama, is now deciding between Georgia and Ohio State and plans to make his final commitment on Signing Day, December 4.
This is a significant setback for Alabama, as Rogers plays for Carver High School in Montgomery and is considered one of the top prep running backs in the state.
“It’s getting close to Signing Day, and I just have to find the best opportunity for me,” Rogers said, according to On3. “Alabama has great coaches and did a great job recruiting me, but I need to make the best decision for myself. That’s what matters most.”
Rogers is ranked as the No. 162 prospect in the 2025 class by On3.
“I’ll announce my decision on Signing Day (Dec. 4),” Rogers added. “It’s between Georgia and Ohio State. I had great visits to both schools, and I’ll keep talking to them, praying on it, and trusting my gut. It’s something I’ll be thinking a lot about in the next couple of weeks.”
Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama are all powerhouse football programs with College Football Playoff aspirations, although each has suffered at least one loss so far in the 2024 season.
Alabama Football Under New Leadership
Alabama is in a transition year, with Kalen DeBoer in his first season as head coach after Nick Saban’s retirement. DeBoer has led the Crimson Tide to an 8-2 record, including a 4-2 mark in conference play.
The season has been a bit more challenging for Alabama than fans are accustomed to. The Tide suffered a surprising loss to Vanderbilt, and they also fell to a ranked Tennessee team on the road in October.
Despite the setbacks, Alabama still has an outside shot at making the College Football Playoff. Quarterback Jalen Milroe has been leading the offense with 2,232 passing yards and 15 touchdowns, and the defense has stepped up, most recently forcing three turnovers in a win over Mercer.
“We’re hunting the ball,” DeBoer said, according to ESPN.
Alabama’s next game is against Oklahoma on Saturday, followed by a regular-season finale against Auburn on November 30. The Tide must win both games to remain in the hunt for a spot in the SEC Championship and keep their playoff hopes alive.
