The Chicago Bears’ season has taken a turn for the worse since their heartbreaking loss to the Washington Commanders on a Hail Mary. On Sunday, it seemed like the Bears were poised to break their 10-game losing streak against the Green Bay Packers, but a blocked 46-yard field goal by Karl Brooks prevented them from winning.
The Packers went on to win 20-19, improving to 7-3 on the season, while the Bears dropped to 4-6. Green Bay is now on track for the playoffs, while Chicago’s hopes of making the postseason are quickly fading.
Bears Special Teams Could Lead to Another Coaching Change
The loss to Green Bay featured a shocking special teams mistake that could cost Bears special teams coordinator Richard Hightower his job. Jovan Alford of *Dairyland Express* suggests that the Packers’ special teams unit, led by Rich Bisaccia, may have forced the Bears to consider another in-season coaching change.
With just three seconds left, the Bears had a chance to win the game with a field goal after Caleb Williams and the offense had set them up in perfect position. But Karl Brooks of the Packers broke through and blocked Cairo Santos’ 46-yard attempt, sealing the victory for Green Bay.
As of Week 11, PFF had ranked the Bears’ special teams unit 21st in the league. After such a crucial failure, it’s becoming likely that Chicago will make a change at the coordinator position, with Hightower’s job now under serious scrutiny.
This could be the second time the Bears make a coordinator change this season, following the firing of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron last week. However, many Bears fans believe head coach Matt Eberflus remains the real problem and should be the one to go.
Firing Waldron, a New Look on Offense
After a disappointing 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots, the Bears parted ways with Waldron. Thomas Brown stepped in as the new offensive coordinator, and the offense showed some improvement in their game against Green Bay.
With the Bears’ season already looking like a lost cause, the question remains whether they will make further changes in the coaching staff. Even if they don’t fire Hightower immediately, it’s likely that both he and Eberflus will be let go at the end of the season.
