BALTIMORE (AP) — Adam Jones, a retired five-time All-Star outfielder, is rejoining the Baltimore Orioles as a special adviser to general manager Mike Elias and as a community ambassador.
The Orioles made the announcement on Monday. In his new role, Jones will offer advice to Elias on various matters and serve as a resource for both the baseball operations team and the players.
“I’m thankful for the relationships I’ve built with the Orioles since retiring, which have led to this exciting opportunity. Being involved with the game I love and learning the business side of baseball from one of the best GMs is truly an honor,” Jones said in a team statement.
“I’m excited to support the Orioles organization and share everything I’ve learned from my experiences to help the team succeed. Baltimore has always been close to my heart, and this role allows me to continue contributing to the community I care so much about. I’m looking forward to this special opportunity.”
Jones will start his new position as a guest coach at the Orioles’ spring training in Sarasota, Florida.
Jones played for the Orioles from 2008 to 2018, winning four Gold Gloves during his tenure. He was an All-Star in 2009 and from 2012-2015.
Jones also spent time with the Seattle Mariners (2006-07) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (2019) before retiring as an Oriole on September 15, 2023.
He ranks fourth in Orioles history for at-bats and total bases and fifth in runs, home runs, RBIs, and extra-base hits.
Jones was a three-time nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, which honors the MLB player who best exemplifies the game through sportsmanship, community involvement, and team contribution. During his career, he was active with the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore, the Orioles RBI program, and the Maryland YMCA.
