Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports reports that the Warriors are rekindling their interest in a potential trade for Jimmy Butler, as the Miami Heat have reportedly reduced their asking price.
Jimmy Butler was recently suspended indefinitely by the Miami Heat after an incident in which he left a shootaround following being informed that Haywood Highsmith would start over him. This led to the suspension, but according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Heat have since begun to lower their asking price for a potential trade.
Windhorst added that the Heat are “really, really trying to make this happen,” and while this has been true for weeks, sources indicate that Miami’s trade demands have softened. The team’s willingness to accept a wider range of offers could draw in more suitors who had previously been hesitant.
The Warriors, currently 4-6 over their last 10 games and outside the Play-In Tournament, would likely see a significant boost to their championship chances with a Butler acquisition. However, the specifics of how much the Heat’s asking price has dropped remain unclear.
Golden State could match Butler’s salary without parting with Jonathan Kuminga, but it’s probable that the Heat would still want him in a trade. That being said, the Warriors might not need to offer as much draft capital as they once would have. It’s possible that the asking price has fallen so significantly that the Warriors could land Butler without giving up Kuminga at all.
