The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes are gearing up for a crucial week as they prepare to host the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers. However, they face a significant setback with news from the *Columbus Dispatch* that starting center, Alabama offensive lineman, tore his Achilles during practice and will miss the remainder of the season.
He had been a key contributor for the 9-1 Buckeyes, starting all 10 games this season and logging 565 snaps without allowing a sack, according to Pro Football Focus. This marks the second major injury on Ohio State’s offensive line, following left tackle Josh Simmons’ knee injury in October against Oregon.
The former Crimson Tide standout was named a Campbell Trophy Finalist in October, an award recognizing the top college football player for academic achievement, athletic performance, and leadership. McLaughlin had previously appeared in 36 games for Alabama, starting 25 of them at center and helping the team secure three SEC championships and one national title.
Ohio State’s offensive line, which was named a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award alongside Alabama, has allowed just 12 sacks this season, ranking 24th nationally. The Buckeyes, who close their season with home games against Indiana and Michigan, are expected to face the No. 1 Oregon Ducks in the Big Ten Championship Game if they secure a spot.
