The Chicago Bears endured a crushing defeat on Sunday when their attempt at a game-winning field goal against their archrival, the Green Bay Packers, was blocked, resulting in another painful loss.
The team has already parted ways with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron last week, and it seems increasingly likely that head coach Matt Eberflus could be shown the door by season’s end.
With the Bears sitting at 4-6 and their playoff hopes fading, attention is shifting toward the offseason. On Tuesday, a fresh mock draft surfaced, projecting Chicago to bolster its defense with their selections.
Chicago Bears Land A Defensive Star
Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus released a six-round mock draft for the Chicago Bears, projecting them to select Texas A&M pass rusher Nick Scourton with the 15th pick. McGuinness noted, *”The Bears have gotten solid production off the edge in 2024, with Montez Sweat earning a 67.8 PFF pass-rushing grade and DeMarcus Walker coming in at 64.5. So this isn’t a huge need — but more of a best-player-available scenario. Scourton has been solid this season but dominated in 2023 at Purdue, where he earned a 90.9 PFF pass-rushing grade.”*
While the Bears could benefit from additional help along the defensive line, prioritizing offensive line upgrades might make more sense. Protecting their young quarterback, Caleb Williams, should be a top priority. Without better protection next season, Williams risks falling short of his potential.
There’s also speculation that the Bears will hire an offensive-minded head coach this offseason, which could influence the team to focus on drafting an offensive player.
