LSU football is set to hire Tim Rattay, the former quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma State, as an offensive analyst, according to multiple sources reported to The Advocate on Monday. This hire is part of LSU’s efforts to complete its coaching staff.
Rattay, a former quarterback at Louisiana Tech, spent the last five years coaching quarterbacks at Oklahoma State before being dismissed as part of a staff overhaul under head coach Mike Gundy.
Prior to his time at Oklahoma State, Rattay was the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders in 2019 and also served six years coaching at Louisiana Tech, where he worked alongside LSU offensive coordinator Joe Sloan.
An Arizona native, Rattay set Louisiana Tech records for single-season and career passing touchdowns. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft and played six seasons with the team, also spending time with Arizona, Tampa Bay, and Tennessee.
Rattay completed 60.5% of his passes (432 of 714), accumulating 4,853 yards and 31 touchdowns during his NFL career.
Later, Rattay spent three seasons coaching wide receivers at Louisiana Tech, before switching to quarterbacks from 2016 to 2018. He and Sloan worked together for all six years under head coach Skip Holtz, and now they will reunite at LSU.
