ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde officially announced his retirement after 11 NFL seasons, sharing the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“So much love and way too many thanks. From Fostoria to Iowa City to Green Bay to Buffalo,” Hyde wrote, referencing his Ohio hometown, college career at Iowa, and two NFL teams. “The goal was to leave an impact. That was one helluva dream. On to the next.”
The 34-year-old had previously indicated that this season would be his last after joining the Bills’ practice squad in early December. He spent the remainder of the regular season and playoffs mentoring Buffalo’s young safeties.
Hyde played six seasons in Buffalo, forming a formidable safety duo with Jordan Poyer. Both players signed with the Bills in 2017, becoming key pieces in Sean McDermott’s first free-agent class as head coach.
A respected leader, Hyde recorded one interception, forced three fumbles, and contributed as a punt returner in 95 starts for Buffalo.
Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Hyde played in 158 games with 128 starts over his career.
