The Chicago White Sox have signed veteran utilityman to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Drury, who spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, joins Chicago alongside fellow utility player Tristan Gray, whom the team also signed to a minor league deal on Friday.
The White Sox officially announced the signings, stating:
“The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with INFs Brandon Drury and Tristan Gray on minor-league contracts which include non-roster invites to Spring Training.”

Originally drafted by the Braves in 2010, Drury made his MLB debut with the Diamondbacks and played his first three seasons in Arizona. The 32-year-old has since played for seven teams over his decade-long career, delivering several strong seasons along the way. His standout year came in 2022 when he emerged as the Cincinnati Reds’ best hitter in the first half, slashing .274/.335/.520 with 20 home runs and 59 RBIs in 92 games before being traded to the San Diego Padres. He finished the season with a .263/.320/.492 line, 28 homers, and a Silver Slugger Award.
His breakout performance earned him a two-year, $17 million contract with the Angels that December. In his first season in Los Angeles, Drury played 125 games, hitting .262/.306/.497 with 26 home runs. However, his production declined in 2024 as he battled hamstring injuries, posting a career-low .169/.242/.228 slash line over 97 games.
Heading into his age-33 season, Drury holds a career .245/.296/.421 batting line with 109 home runs and a .717 OPS. When healthy, he has been a valuable power hitter, ranking among the league’s best in home run and hard-hit percentages. Defensively, he has transitioned from an outfield role to primarily playing second and third base, showcasing versatility that makes him a useful depth piece.
If he makes the White Sox roster out of camp, Drury is expected to serve as the right-handed half of a third-base platoon with Josh Rojas. With a fresh opportunity in Chicago, he will look to rebound from his struggles and could position himself as a potential Comeback Player of the Year candidate if he stays healthy.
