The Las Vegas Raiders must find a long-term solution at quarterback this offseason.
Both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew struggled throughout 2024, leaving the team with uncertainty at the position. Minshew could become a cap casualty, while O’Connell appears better suited for a backup role.
With Pete Carroll now at the helm, the new head coach will likely want to bring in his own quarterback. One name to watch is Russell Wilson, who spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
The Steelers are reportedly moving on from Wilson, making Las Vegas a logical destination given his history with Carroll. Nick Villano of FanSided has even predicted Wilson will land with the Raiders.
Villano explains that Wilson would fit best in a situation without major expectations, where he can serve as both a player and mentor. He suggests that the Raiders could pair Wilson with a rookie quarterback, allowing the young signal-caller time to develop. Wilson wouldn’t be expected to lead the team to immediate success but could offer valuable guidance while providing competent play under center.
Wilson enjoyed his best years under Carroll in Seattle, where he spent a decade, made eight Pro Bowls, and won a Super Bowl. Though he’ll turn 37 during the 2025 season, a reunion with Carroll could help rejuvenate his career, making him a strong bridge option for the Raiders.
Spotrac projects Wilson’s next contract to be a two-year deal worth $77 million, but with Las Vegas expected to have around $92 million in cap space, the cost shouldn’t be a major obstacle.
