Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick voiced her support for former President Donald Trump’s decision to revoke Dr. Anthony Fauci’s security detail.
On Friday night, Patrick shared an Instagram story featuring a news article about Fauci losing his security protection, adding a quote from Trump and the caption, “Damn right.”
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) initially requested security for Fauci in 2020 due to threats he faced as a leading public health official during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, that protection was withdrawn Thursday night.
Trump defended the decision, stating, “When you work for government, at some point your security detail comes off. You can’t have them forever.” He added that security details had also been removed from others, emphasizing that former officials should not expect lifelong protection.
When asked if he would feel responsible if something happened to Fauci, Trump dismissed the concern, saying, “No. They all made a lot of money. They can hire their own security. Certainly, I would not take responsibility.”
Patrick has been vocal in her political views, frequently supporting Trump and Republican policies. Recently, she criticized California’s leadership in response to the state’s handling of wildfires.
After Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) CEO Janisse Quiñones acknowledged difficulties in maintaining water pressure for fire hydrants, Patrick commented on X, questioning why California, with its vast coastline and reservoirs, struggles with water shortages.
“It must be getting difficult for hardcore Cali lovers to accept the state of their state and how it’s managed,” she wrote, calling for Gov. Gavin Newsom’s resignation and referring to him as “Newscum.”
In October, Patrick announced on Jesse Watters Primetime that she would be voting for president for the first time in 2024, casting her ballot for Trump.
“Voting for Donald Trump feels like the rational, reasonable choice,” she said, adding that she doesn’t understand why “MAGA” is viewed negatively.
“I believe that if he gets into office, with all the amazing and brilliant people supporting him, America can not only be great again but greater than ever before,” she said.
During the same interview, Patrick also voiced her opposition to transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, aligning with a major campaign stance for Trump and the Republican Party.
“As a woman in what was essentially a men’s sport, I know firsthand that men are just different. Their hormones, their bodies—everything is different,” she said, calling the inclusion of transgender women in female sports “completely wrong.”
