Victor Osimhen will not fulfill his promise of winning the UEFA Europa League with Galatasaray this season after the Turkish champions were eliminated by AZ Alkmaar.
Despite securing a 2-2 draw in Istanbul yesterday, Galatasaray exited the competition with a 6-3 aggregate defeat.
Osimhen, who missed the first leg in the Netherlands due to suspension—where his team suffered a 4-1 loss—had vowed they would overturn the deficit to reach the Round of 16.
The Super Eagles striker, who had scored five goals in the tournament, failed to find the net in the second leg and was substituted late in the match.
Galatasaray will now turn their focus to the highly anticipated ‘Intercontinental Derby’ against fierce city rivals Fenerbahce on Monday.
After 23 games, Gala holds a six-point lead over Fenerbahce at the top of the league table.
