The New York Giants initially targeted Matthew Stafford in their quarterback search, but the Los Angeles Rams ultimately decided to keep him. With Stafford no longer an option, the Giants have shifted their focus elsewhere.
New York had hoped to draft Cam Ward in 2025, but a Week 17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts hurt their draft position. Now, their best chance at landing Ward would be if the Tennessee Titans, who hold the No. 1 overall pick, are willing to trade down. Otherwise, either Tennessee or the Cleveland Browns (holding the No. 2 pick) is expected to select him.
With many around the league viewing Ward as significantly more talented than Shedeur Sanders, it’s unlikely Sanders will be taken third overall. Given the uncertainty of acquiring Ward, the Giants are also exploring veteran options in free agency.
According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, New York has had ongoing interest in quarterback Russell Wilson. While Aaron Rodgers is also on their radar, Wilson appears to be the preferred choice.
Wilson, who posted a 95.6 QB rating with a 16-5 TD-INT ratio, 2,482 passing yards, and a 63.7% completion rate in 11 games, reportedly views the Giants as a fallback option if he doesn’t re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, with Pittsburgh prioritizing Justin Fields—who is also drawing interest from the New York Jets—there is a realistic chance Wilson could become New York’s starting quarterback.
Even if the Giants sign Wilson, they remain intent on trading up for the No. 1 pick. A potential scenario could see Wilson signing a short-term deal, allowing the team to draft Ward and have him develop under head coach Brian Daboll before taking over the starting role.
