The New York Rangers have signed backup goaltender Jonathan Quick to a one-year contract extension for his age-40 season. Sources indicate the deal carries a $1.55 million AAV and includes performance-based bonuses.
Now in his second season with the Rangers, Quick has compiled a 27-12-4 record in New York, posting a .904 save percentage, a 2.83 goals-against average, and five shutouts—three of which have come this season.
A three-time Stanley Cup champion, Quick won two titles with the Los Angeles Kings—earning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2012—and another with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023. This season, he became the 15th goaltender in NHL history and the first U.S.-born netminder to reach 400 career wins.
This marks Quick’s third consecutive one-year contract with the Rangers as Igor Shesterkin’s backup. He initially signed for under $1 million in 2023 free agency before re-signing for $1.25 million this season.
Meanwhile, Shesterkin, 29, secured his future with the team by signing an eight-year, $92 million extension in December, keeping him under contract through 2033.
The Rangers value Quick as a key veteran presence in the locker room, particularly as a mentor to younger players.
