Colston Loveland has been frequently linked to the Los Angeles Chargers throughout the draft process, and for good reason.
Having played under Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, Loveland was part of the Wolverines’ National Championship-winning team in 2023. Given their familiarity, it’s no surprise that Harbaugh and Loveland are set to meet during Michigan’s Pro Day on Tuesday.
Despite the recent signing of Tyler Conklin, the Chargers still need a long-term solution at tight end, and Harbaugh knows he can rely on Loveland. If drafted, he would provide Justin Herbert with a reliable target for years to come. The main question is whether the Chargers are willing to use their first-round pick on him, as he’s unlikely to fall to the second round.
Loveland is widely regarded as the second-best tight end in this draft class, behind Penn State’s Tyler Warren. Over three seasons at Michigan, he posted 117 receptions for 1,466 yards and 11 touchdowns.
With Joshua Palmer departing in free agency, the Chargers are looking for additional playmakers in the passing game. They have brought back Mike Williams after a year away from the team and signed Conklin, but adding Loveland would further strengthen their offense.
