COMMITMENT DONE DEAL JUST IN: Westlake High edge rusher announced he has committed to BYU, the star edge rusher released from his commitment to Stanford.

PROVO, Utah – BYU football has secured a late but potentially significant addition to its 2025 high school recruiting class.

Westlake High School edge rusher Nusi Taumoepeau announced his commitment to BYU.

Nusi Taumoepeau Commits to BYU Football

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect originally signed with Stanford for the 2025 season. However, following Troy Taylor’s dismissal as Stanford’s head coach, Taumoepeau was released from his commitment, allowing BYU to enter the picture.

On Monday, Taumoepeau shared his excitement on X, writing:
“I’m HOME! RISE AND SHOUT, GO COUGS.”

He added, “Blessed to have so much love and support during this time and always! Thank you and love you all! Home is where God says it is. When He says move, you MOVE! All Glory to Him!”

A Highly Regarded Prospect

Taumoepeau was one of Utah’s top recruits in the 2025 cycle.

• 247Sports ranks him as a four-star prospect and the 224th-best player nationally.
• In the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is listed as a three-star prospect (580th overall).
• He is also rated as the third-best recruit in Utah, making him one of two top-five in-state players joining BYU, alongside Austin Pay from Lone Peak High, who recently left for a mission.

Standout Player at Westlake High

Taumoepeau had an impressive senior season, racking up 88 tackles and 13 sacks in 2024.

BYU focused heavily on edge rushers in its 2025 recruiting class, also adding:

• Tausili Akana (Texas transfer)
• Vincent Tautua (Honolulu, Hawaii)
• Ulavai Fetuli (La Habra, California)
• Sale Fano (Taumoepeau’s teammate at Westlake)

With these additions, BYU’s 2025 recruiting class has climbed to No. 55 in the 247Sports composite rankings.
