HENDERSON, Nev. — Quarterback Geno Smith, who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders nearly a month ago, has agreed to a two-year, $75 million contract extension, ESPN reported Thursday.
The new deal will keep Smith with the Raiders through the 2027 season and includes $66.5 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN.
Las Vegas acquired Smith from the Seattle Seahawks on March 7 in exchange for a third-round draft pick. While Smith still had one year remaining on his previous contract, the two sides had not finalized an extension until now. Raiders general manager John Spytek said during the NFL meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this week that he was optimistic a deal would be finalized soon.
“We’re excited to have him beyond just this season,” Spytek said Tuesday. “Once we get everything lined up with his contract, he’ll be here. I’m confident it’ll get done shortly.”
Smith passed for 4,320 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions for Seattle last season.
Now 34 years old, the two-time Pro Bowler will reunite with new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll.
Carroll, who helped revive Smith’s career by signing him in 2019 after he had bounced around following his early struggles with the New York Jets, will look to recapture that magic in Las Vegas. Smith had stints with the Giants and Chargers before landing in Seattle.
In 2022, Carroll made Smith the starter, and the quarterback responded by leading the NFL with a 69.8% completion rate, throwing for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He went on to earn NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors.
Seattle posted winning records in each of Smith’s three seasons as the starting quarterback.
