The 26-year-old German sprinter, who competed in the mixed 4x400m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has set her sights on a new goal: transitioning to the demanding 800m event, which tests both speed and endurance.

Reflecting on her journey, Schmidt shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, posting highlights from her performances at the Olympics and the European Championships in Rome. “It’s been an incredible year,” she wrote. “From the world relays in the Bahamas to the European championships in Rome, and, of course, THE OLYMPICS — so many unforgettable moments.”

In addition to running in the women’s 4x400m relay, Schmidt helped Germany secure a seventh-place finish in the mixed relay. She explained that her desire to continually push her limits inspired her to take on the grueling 800m distance.

“After Paris, I wanted to try something new, so I ran the 800m and 600m — and I really loved stepping outside my comfort zone,” she said. “Back in 2022, I made up my mind to go for the 800m after the Paris Olympics, and now it’s time. Next year, I’ll be training with an international group focused on the 800m, learning from some of the best in the world.”

Schmidt officially kicked off her journey on Monday, sharing an Instagram Story from the airport with the caption, “Off to the first training camp of the new season.” She’s headed to South Africa for high-altitude training, a method elite athletes use to build stamina and endurance.

Beyond her track career, Schmidt is also a successful model and influencer, with a following of 5.7 million on Instagram. She recently commemorated her Olympic debut with a new tattoo of the Olympic rings on her upper thigh, celebrating the beginning of this new chapter in her life.
