Robert Wright III is officially joining BYU.

BYU has confirmed the signing of the former Baylor point guard, following earlier reports from the Deseret News that Wright was in Provo on Friday for his official visit. News of his commitment first surfaced Thursday.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Rob and his entire family to BYU,” said head coach Kevin Young. “He comes from a terrific background, and we’re excited for them to be part of Cougar Nation. Rob is one of the most electric guards in the country—his speed and quickness are elite. He’s the ultimate floor general who elevates everyone around him. We can’t wait to get him on campus and start working together.”

As a freshman at Baylor, Wright played in 35 games and started 21, averaging 11.5 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 41.4% from the field and 35.2% from beyond the arc.

He made a strong impression against BYU during their Jan. 28 matchup, scoring 22 points—18 in the second half—along with six assists and four boards in an overtime loss.

Wright wrapped up his debut season by earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and All-Freshman honors—the same recognition earned by Egor Demin, whom he’ll now replace at point guard for the Cougars.

With Wright stepping into the role vacated by the NBA-bound Demin, BYU appears poised for success under Coach Young. If veteran guard Richie Saunders returns for his senior year, a trio of Wright, AJ Dybantsa, and Saunders could form one of college basketball’s most formidable lineups.
