Four Nebraska football players have entered the NCAA transfer portal following the conclusion of spring practice, increasing the total number of post-spring departures to six. This trend highlights the ongoing roster overhaul under head coach Matt Rhule.
The most recent players to announce their departure are junior linebacker Stefon Thompson, junior running back Gabe Ervin Jr., redshirt freshman defensive lineman Vincent Jackson, and sophomore wide receiver Malachi Coleman. They join earlier transfer entrants junior linebacker Mikai Gbayor and junior defensive lineman Jimari Butler.
Thompson, who transferred from Syracuse, tallied 27 tackles and two pass breakups across 11 games in 2024. Ervin Jr. played in eight games, registering 14 carries for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson was part of the defensive line rotation in 10 games, while Coleman, a Lincoln East graduate, redshirted the season due to a shoulder injury.
The exit of defensive coordinator Tony White to Florida State is believed to have played a role in some of these transfer decisions, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Despite the outgoing transfers, Nebraska has remained active in the portal, landing players like Alabama offensive tackle Elijah Pritchett, who started 12 games for the Crimson Tide in 2024.
As the Huskers continue to reshape the roster, the coaching staff is focused on assembling a competitive team for the upcoming season.
