TAMPA, Fla. – Dijon Jaquis Johnson, a 21-year-old cornerback for the Florida Gators football team, was arrested on May 2 in Tampa. He faces charges including possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of under 20 grams of marijuana, and resisting an officer without violence.
At approximately 11:14 p.m. on May 2, a Tampa Police Department officer stopped a gray Dodge Challenger for crossing the stop bar at an intersection. Johnson, the driver of the vehicle, was identified, though the report doesn’t specify the number of other passengers.
The officer reported that Johnson became confrontational and refused multiple requests to exit the vehicle. As a result, the officer removed him from the car and detained him.
A search of the vehicle was conducted after the officer detected a strong smell of burnt marijuana. Inside a backpack, authorities found Johnson’s passport, 8 grams of synthetic marijuana, an unspecified amount of marijuana, and a loaded Glock 19 handgun with 17 rounds in the magazine but no rounds in the chamber.
While Johnson has three traffic citations in Alachua County, he has no other known criminal history. He was released after posting \$8,500 bail.
A consensus four-star recruit from Wharton High School in Tampa, Johnson played in all 12 games during the 2023 season, mainly on special teams, and appeared in all 13 games of the 2024 season, starting five.
