A year ago, Jamier Brown was just a speedy, high-upside kid from Dayton with the potential to become a standout wide receiver prospect. Today, the Wayne High School product has exceeded even the highest expectations. Brown has always been known for his blazing speed thanks to his track background, but his football skill set has advanced well beyond that.
Growing up about an hour from Ohio State, Brown — a five-star wide receiver commit — is currently ranked as the No. 3 overall player and top receiver in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. At camps, he’s consistently outperformed elite defensive backs, showing off crisp, fluid routes and dependable hands. As a sophomore, he hauled in 63 catches for 1,035 yards and 15 touchdowns.
“I’ve definitely improved my route running and separation,” Brown said about his development since last season. “My work ethic and mindset have gotten a lot better too.”
It’s no surprise Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline extended an offer after Brown’s freshman season — and Brown didn’t wait long to accept, becoming the first pledge in OSU’s 2027 class. He now headlines the class alongside fellow five-star, quarterback Brady Edmunds.
Brown’s choice to commit to the Buckeyes was further validated by this year’s NFL Draft, which saw Emeka Egbuka taken in the first round by the Buccaneers. That makes five first-round wideouts from Ohio State in just four drafts — six if you count Jameson Williams, who began his career in Columbus.
“That just confirms I made the right decision,” Brown said. “They’ve had five receivers drafted in the first round in four years. That’s something I want to be a part of, and I’m going to do everything I can to reach that level.”
Brown praised Hartline and head coach Ryan Day, calling them not just great coaches, but great people. He said Hartline is deeply invested in his progress and has built a strong bond with him and his family.
He’s also connected with Egbuka, who gave Brown his number and encouraged him to reach out whenever he needed support. “He’s a great mentor and brother,” Brown said.
Although Brown and Edmunds have only spoken briefly so far, Brown hopes to build a stronger relationship with his future quarterback this summer.
At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, Brown said he’s ready to play either in the slot or outside and is confident in what he brings to the Buckeyes’ receiver room.
“I’m a leader who brings energy,” he said. “I hype up my teammates and do whatever is needed. I’m a complete player. I make plays wherever I’m needed.”
As with any high-profile recruit, rumors of a possible flip have started circulating — especially after Brown visited Notre Dame this spring. But he clarified that the trip was mainly to see his former teammate Aamil Wagner, not to consider the Irish as an option.
Even when pressed by Notre Dame media, Brown — sporting an Ohio State necklace and a Block O tattoo — left no doubt about where he’s headed.
“People can say what they want,” he said. “I’m committed to Ohio State. That’s where I’m going.”
