Purdue Secures Commitment from Five-Star Edge Rusher
Purdue added another major piece to its 2026 recruiting class this week. On Thursday, the Boilermakers landed a commitment from five-star edge rusher Max Carmicle, flipping him from Northern Illinois. He becomes the 12th pledge in Purdue’s 2026 class.
Carmicle had originally committed to Northern Illinois back in January, but his stock has soared since then as offers from Power Four programs continued to roll in. On Thursday, he officially announced his decision to join the Boilermakers.
“Proud to announce I’ll be officially committing to Purdue University,” Carmicle shared. “Huge thanks to all those who took a chance on me and supported me through everything. Glory be to God.”
Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 240 pounds, Carmicle has the ideal build for a Big Ten defensive end. According to 247Sports, he is rated as the No. 90 edge rusher nationally and the No. 23 overall prospect from Illinois.
Carmicle chose Purdue over a host of Big Ten schools, including Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. He held 15 total offers.
During the 2024 season at Hillcrest High School (Ill.), Carmicle recorded 40 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six sacks, and two forced fumbles.
With his commitment, Purdue now holds 12 commitments in its 2026 class, which ranks 36th nationally and 11th in the Big Ten.
