Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant is entering the final year of his $54.7 million contract, and many around the league expect the Suns to trade the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer soon.
According to The Athletic, Durant has a strong interest in joining either the San Antonio Spurs or the Houston Rockets. ESPN’s Shams Charania also reported that Durant would be willing to commit long-term to the Heat, Spurs, or Rockets.
Despite Durant’s preferences, it’s uncertain how much sway he’ll have in determining his next destination, as the Suns are focused on securing the best possible return in any trade.
While the Spurs possess the assets to potentially acquire Durant, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported via “The Stein Line” that Phoenix is underwhelmed by the players San Antonio has offered so far. Reportedly, the Spurs are only willing to part with veterans like Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Harrison Barnes.
Should Durant land in San Antonio, he’d join a young, developing roster. The Spurs currently own the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and are expected to select Rutgers guard Dylan Harper. This would mark the third consecutive year San Antonio has held a top-five pick—previous selections Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama both went on to win NBA Rookie of the Year honors.
