Houston Rockets signed a three-year, \$39 million contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2027-28 season,
The new fully guaranteed deal was reached after negotiations between Rockets executives and Adams’ representatives at Wasserman, according to sources.
Adams, who turns 32 next month, was set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. However, both sides were eager to continue their partnership after Adams played a key role in Houston’s return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020, contributing both on the court and as a veteran leader.
His extension removes one of the top centers from this summer’s free agent market.
The Rockets had until June 30 to extend Adams, and now they’ll shift focus to guard Fred VanVleet’s \$44.9 million team option, which must be decided by June 29. There is reportedly mutual interest in bringing VanVleet back.
After missing the entire 2023-24 season due to knee surgery, Adams returned to action this year and appeared in 58 games, playing 22.1 minutes per game in the playoffs. He played a major role in Houston’s defensive schemes during their first-round series against the Warriors — the team outscored Golden State by 44 points when Adams was on the floor and was outscored by the same margin when he was off.
A seasoned veteran with 11 NBA seasons under his belt, Adams is known for his elite offensive rebounding. He led the league in offensive rebounding percentage this season and helped the Rockets finish first in offensive rebounds as a team.
