The Buffalo Bills bolstered their receiving corps by acquiring Amari Cooper in a trade just before the NFL trade deadline. The move paid off quickly, as Cooper caught a touchdown just days later.
While Cooper is expected to play an increasingly significant role in the offense as the Bills pursue their fifth consecutive division title and a potential No. 1 seed in the AFC, his future in Buffalo is uncertain. He will become a free agent after this season, and there are no guarantees he will re-sign.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine suggests the Bills could prepare for this possibility by targeting a rising young wide receiver enjoying a breakout season.
Bills Have More Work in Wide Receiving Corps
In his analysis of the roster needs for all 32 NFL teams, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine proposed that the Buffalo Bills could target Washington Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown, who is set to become a free agent after this season. The 25-year-old Brown has already set career highs with 16 catches for 171 yards and one touchdown this season.
Ballentine noted that while the Bills currently have a solid receiving corps, they still have work to do. If they are unable to re-sign Amari Cooper, they would need to focus on adding new talent, but they may not want to spend heavily in the top tier of free agency.
Although Brown’s production hasn’t been groundbreaking, Ballentine suggested that the Bills might pursue him based on his potential, hoping that a change of scenery and playing alongside Josh Allen could help him develop into a more impactful player.
“Targeting someone like Dyami Brown would give them a younger free agent who could develop into a better player,” Ballentine wrote. “Brown has shown flashes of potential with the Commanders, and a fresh start in Buffalo could elevate his game.”
Room for Amari Cooper to Grow
With the offseason still far off for the Buffalo Bills, who have their sights set on a Super Bowl this season, Alex Ballentine previously suggested that the team will need to expand Amari Cooper’s role as the season progresses. Cooper is seen as having the potential to become a No. 1 receiver on a team that focuses on distributing the ball to multiple targets.
Ballentine highlighted Cooper’s important contributions in the Bills’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, noting that while he had two receptions for 55 yards, he was only targeted three times. Despite his limited usage, Cooper has emerged as one of the team’s best deep threats, and Ballentine believes it would be beneficial for Buffalo to get him more involved as the season continues.
The Bills may have used their bye week to get Cooper further acclimated to the offense. They return with an opportunity to clinch the AFC East, which they could accomplish with a Miami Dolphins loss on Thanksgiving and a win over the San Francisco 49ers on December 1.
