Emma Raducanu appeared to drop a subtle hint about her rumored relationship with French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz on Wednesday.
The speculation about the nature of their connection has been growing since earlier this month, especially with the duo preparing to play mixed doubles together at the upcoming US Open.
The 22-year-old British star was reportedly seen cheering for Alcaraz, also 22, at the Queen’s Club Championship. In a recent interview, she praised Carlos, calling him “a positive light to be around.”
Sources say their close rapport became the buzz of the Queen’s Club, leaving fans wondering if there’s more than just friendship between the two young tennis sensations.
Fueling the rumors, Emma was seen wearing a purple training top during practice at the Eastbourne Open on Wednesday—a color that has become associated with Alcaraz, who wore similar shades during recent media appearances.
As Raducanu prepped for her second-round match against Australia’s Maya Joint, Alcaraz was in London at the All England Club, preparing for Wimbledon. He seemed cheerful, flashing a big smile while arriving in a white Nike top.
According to The Sun, Alcaraz was spotted visiting Emma’s hotel in London multiple times last week following her appearances at Queen’s to support him. One source said he was seen at her hotel both Thursday and Saturday, and that Emma’s car arrived at Queen’s shortly after Alcaraz’s team each day. Inside the venue, the two were seen laughing and appearing very comfortable together.
Another insider mentioned, “It wasn’t just tennis people talking about it. Even staff from the BBC and other broadcasters were gossiping. All the love talk was about Emma and Carlos.”
Representatives for both players have yet to comment on the rumors.
Emma recently opened up about her friendship with Alcaraz, revealing it began during Wimbledon 2021. Speaking to the Mail, she said, “He’s so nice, very happy, has amazing values, and is just a really positive light to be around. I’ve known him for years… It was cool going through that tournament together, and we stayed in touch through the US Open. We still have a good relationship.”
The Mail also noted that Raducanu is close with fellow tennis player Benjamin Heynold, 24, a long-time friend from Team GB who currently studies in the U.S. Some friends speculate their friendship may have turned romantic.
Previously, Emma dated Carlo Agostinelli, the son of financier Robert Agostinelli. Their year-long relationship was described as her most serious yet before ending last year.
Emma has spoken about her strict upbringing in Bromley, South East London, revealing that her parents didn’t allow her to date or even hang out much with friends as a teenager. “I was very resentful,” she told The Times, “but it helped me become confident and comfortable in my own company—which is a real strength.”
