The Cincinnati Reds appear to be in win-now mode, as evidenced by their decision to accelerate top prospect Chase Burns’ path to the majors rather than gradually developing him in the minors.
With the trade deadline approaching, the Reds have a chance to double down on that aggressive approach. Sports Illustrated’s Nicholas Selbe recently suggested Cincinnati could make a splash by trading for Miami Marlins outfielder Jesús Sánchez. “Sánchez has yet to fully deliver on his potential,” Selbe noted. “Though he hit 18 home runs and stole 16 bases in 2024, his current slash line equates to a league-average 99 wRC+.” Still, with elite bat speed and a powerful 6-foot-4, 222-pound frame, Sánchez remains an intriguing target—especially for a team seeking a controllable bat with upside. Under contract through 2027, he offers more long-term value than a typical rental.
While a left-handed outfielder might not be Cincinnati’s most urgent need, acquiring Sánchez would mark a significant upgrade—especially considering the Reds have relied on players like Connor Joe and Garrett Hampson in the outfield this season.
Such a trade would energize the fanbase and align with the team’s push to contend. If the Reds can help Sánchez tap into his potential, he could evolve into a consistent 20-homer, 20-steal threat for years to come.
