The rivalry between the Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies has always been intense, and Saturday night was no exception.
After the Longhorns secured a 17-7 victory over the Aggies in College Station, Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons took to social media to send a sharp message to Texas A&M offensive lineman Ar’maj Reed-Adams. The two players had clashed late in the game, and Simmons didn’t hold back.
“@THE55ARMAJ Watch yourself *** wicked out hea 55,” Simmons wrote in an Instagram post.
The post referred to an incident during the second half when Reed-Adams pulled off Simmons’ helmet during a scuffle. Both players were penalized for personal fouls, and referees had to step in to separate them. Simmons was visibly upset following the altercation.
While the incident didn’t affect the game’s outcome, it highlighted the fiery nature of the rivalry, which was evident throughout rivalry weekend in college football.
Interestingly, the tension between Simmons and Reed-Adams has roots in their high school days, as they played for rival Texas programs—Duncanville and DeSoto. However, they didn’t have much direct competition against each other until now.
Simmons, a true freshman and the Longhorns’ prized 2024 recruit, had an impressive game with five tackles, the second-highest total on the team behind Liona Lefau. Meanwhile, Reed-Adams, a junior who transferred to Texas A&M this offseason after originally signing with Kansas, found himself in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Simmons will return to action next Saturday when Texas faces Georgia in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.
