The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed forward Kasperi Kapanen to a one-year deal worth \$1.3 million, the team announced today.
Kapanen recorded five goals and 13 points in 57 regular-season games with Edmonton, and contributed three goals and six points in 12 playoff appearances. Notably, he netted the overtime winner in Game 5 of the second round to eliminate the Vegas Golden Knights.
Set to become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, the 28-year-old had previously signed a one-year, \$1 million contract with the St. Louis Blues. The Oilers claimed him off waivers from St. Louis in November.
Kapanen has scored six goals in each of the past two seasons and had a career-best 20 goals and 44 points with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018–19. Over 527 NHL games across 10 seasons with Toronto, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Edmonton, the Finnish winger has totaled 90 goals and 222 points.
