According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to trade pending unrestricted free agent to the Vegas Golden Knights in a sign-and-trade deal.
TSN’s Chris Johnston reports that new contract will span eight years with an average annual value of \$12 million.
Bob McKenzie adds that the deal, if finalized, will see forward Nicolas Roy going to Toronto in what appears to be a one-for-one trade.
Marner, 28, had an impressive season with the Leafs, tallying 27 goals and 102 points over 81 games. He added another 13 points in 13 playoff games before Toronto was eliminated in the second round by the Florida Panthers.
Standing six feet tall, Marner just completed a six-year, \$65.41 million contract with a \$10.9 million annual cap hit. Selected fourth overall by Toronto in the 2015 NHL Draft, he ranks fifth in franchise history with 221 goals and 741 points across 657 games.
During his time with the Maple Leafs, Marner helped the team reach the playoffs in nine straight seasons and secure two division titles, though the team advanced past the second round only twice and lost seven winner-take-all games.
The Thornhill, Ontario native has also represented Canada internationally, including a first-place finish at the 4 Nations Face-Off and a silver medal at the 2017 World Championship.
