The New York Rangers began the offseason with the goal of reshaping their forward group, and their efforts have continued into NHL Free Agency. On the opening day, they made another addition by signing a former 20-goal scorer who’s expected to compete for a bottom-six role next season.
That player is 27-year-old winger Taylor Raddysh, who most recently suited up for the Washington Capitals. Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 198 pounds, Raddysh agreed to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1.5 million.
Raddysh has played 305 NHL games across four seasons. Last year with Washington, he recorded seven goals and 20 assists for a total of 27 points in 80 games, averaging 12:22 of ice time per night. Advanced stats from Evolving-Hockey show he had a 45.74% goals-for percentage, a 52.41% Corsi-for percentage, and a 55.54% expected goals-for percentage.
Throughout his career, Raddysh has typically played on the third or fourth line, averaging 14:16 of ice time per game. His standout season came in 2022–23 with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he scored 20 goals and added 17 assists for 37 points in 78 games.
With the Rangers, he’s expected to compete for a role on the third or fourth line. His signing could also provide insurance in case prospects like Gabe Perreault or Brennan Othmann start the season in the AHL with Hartford.
Raddysh joins a bottom-six group that includes Juuso Parssinen, Sam Carrick, Matt Rempe, Adam Edstrom, and Jonny Brodzinski. While there’s always a possibility he could be placed on waivers if things don’t work out, the size of his contract indicates the team intends to give him a legitimate opportunity to contribute.
