Sunderland aren’t wasting any time preparing for their Premier League return under Regis Le Bris. Since securing promotion, speculation has been swirling around how the squad will be shaped for the 2025-26 season.
The club recently confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Habib Diarra from RC Strasbourg, and they’re reportedly close to finalizing a deal for 20-year-old Noah Sadiki as well.
But the Black Cats’ plans don’t stop there. Reports indicate they’re also advancing in negotiations to bring in Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Sunderland are nearing a €25 million agreement for the 25-year-old Serbian international, who would reportedly sign a five-year deal. Petrovic spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg—a club owned by the same group as Chelsea—making such moves between the two teams more common.
If the deal goes through, Petrovic would be reunited with Diarra, his teammate at Strasbourg during the 2024-25 campaign. However, Sunderland may face competition, as Bournemouth are also reportedly interested in the shot-stopper, according to The Chelsea Chronicle and transfer insider Graeme Bailey.
This potential signing is another signal of Sunderland’s clear ambition heading into their top-flight campaign. All eyes now turn to whether the move will be officially confirmed in the coming hours.
