Sunderland have begun negotiations with Sassuolo over the potential signing of French attacker Armand Laurienté, according to *L’Équipe*.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a standout 2024–25 season, netting 19 goals and providing five assists in 34 matches as Sassuolo clinched the Serie B title and secured immediate promotion back to Serie A. His performances earned him the Serie B Player of the Season award.
*L’Équipe* reports that Sunderland have “initiated discussions” with Sassuolo regarding Laurienté, who has just one year left on his contract and is valued at approximately £17 million. The Black Cats are reportedly “pushing hard” to bring him to the Premier League as part of a significant squad rebuild following their own promotion.
Laurienté is a familiar face to head coach Régis Le Bris, with the two previously working together at Lorient. A move to Sunderland would reunite the pair and see Laurienté link up with fellow French-speaking players Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, and Noah Sadiki.
Born in France, Laurienté developed at Rennes before making senior appearances during loan spells at Orléans and Lorient. He joined Sassuolo in August 2022 and has since established himself as a versatile forward capable of playing on either wing or through the middle.
