The New York Yankees have several areas they’ll likely look to address ahead of this year’s trade deadline. With Clarke Schmidt recently landing on the injured list and DJ LeMahieu struggling, bolstering the starting rotation and infield may become priorities.
An outfielder doesn’t appear to be on their radar for now. With Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham, Jasson Domínguez, and Cody Bellinger in the mix, the Yankees seem set in the outfield department.
However, that could change in the offseason. Grisham is set to become a free agent, and Bellinger could opt out of his contract. As a result, outfield depth might become a bigger concern down the line. Still, one potential target may already be off the table.
According to Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bryan Reynolds would not approve a trade to the Yankees. Reynolds signed an eight-year, $106 million extension with Pittsburgh in 2023 that includes a six-team no-trade clause. Per Hiles, the teams on that list are the Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Giants, and Padres.
“Some national reports have mentioned that Bryan Reynolds is drawing trade interest,” Hiles wrote. “But dealing him may not be so simple. His contract includes a limited no-trade clause, and he’s made it clear he won’t accept deals to certain teams.”
A two-time All-Star, Reynolds owns a career slash line of .272/.346/.461 with 132 home runs. While he’s in the midst of a down season offensively, his track record suggests it’s likely a temporary dip rather than a long-term decline. The Pirates remain far from contention, and moving Reynolds could net them a significant return — though most contenders appear to be off his preferred list.
