Former Parramatta Eels winger Semi Radradra has officially signed with a new rugby union team, confirming his continuation in the 15-a-side game. Having switched from rugby league to union in 2017, the former fan favourite has joined the Shizuoka Blue Revs, a club competing in Japan Rugby League One.
Radradra last played in the NRL in 2017, ending a five-season stint with the Eels during which he scored an impressive 82 tries in 94 appearances. Despite being at the peak of his career, he made the move to union, leaving behind a strong legacy. Known as the ‘Semi Trailer’ for his unique combination of power and pace, he was a difficult opponent to contain. He also represented Australia once in 2016, and featured for both the World All Stars and the Prime Minister’s XIII.
In an official statement, Radradra expressed his enthusiasm for the new opportunity:
“It’s a privilege to be joining the Blue Revs for next season. Playing in Japan League One has been a long-standing ambition of mine, and I’m thrilled to be signing with such a top-tier club,” he said.
“I’m extremely driven and will give everything I have to contribute to the team. I’m really looking forward to arriving in Japan, meeting my new teammates and coaches, and diving into pre-season. See you soon!”
An Olympic gold medallist in Rugby Sevens with Fiji at the Tokyo 2021 Games, Radradra has previously played for top European clubs including Toulon, Bordeaux Bègles, Bristol Bears, and most recently Lyon.
He has earned 21 international caps for Fiji in rugby union, representing them at the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups.
Announcing the signing, the Blue Revs shared on social media:
“Semi Radradra from Fiji is the newest member of Shizuoka Blue Revs. With 21 caps for Fiji, appearances at two World Cups (2019, 2023), and a Sevens Olympic gold medal, he brings immense experience. At 33, he has also played for the Australian national rugby league team, the Kangaroos.”
