Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, and Cardiff City are all reportedly interested in signing Fleetwood Town goalkeeper David Harrington, according to Football League World.
The three clubs are aiming to compete near the top of League One this coming season. Bolton are rebuilding under Steven Schumacher, Wigan are led by Ryan Lowe, and Cardiff—recently relegated—are entering a new era.
With the new campaign just weeks away, all three sides are actively looking to strengthen their squads. Among several transfer targets, Harrington has emerged as a potential addition, with the trio possibly set to battle it out for his signature.
Who is David Harrington?
Harrington, 25, began his career at the Cobh Academy before joining his hometown club Cork City in 2018. While he didn’t rack up many appearances, he impressed when given the opportunity—reportedly keeping 18 clean sheets in 35 matches and conceding just 22 goals.
Currently under contract with League Two side Fleetwood Town until summer 2026, Harrington could move on before his deal runs out. His solid performances last season, including eight clean sheets in 21 appearances before injury cut his campaign short, have attracted attention.
Though born in Ireland, Harrington has declared for Wales at international level.
Bolton Wanderers’ goalkeeping situation
Bolton have already brought in Ted Sharman-Lowe on loan from Chelsea, but the departures of Nathan Baxter and Joel Coleman, along with the sale of Luke Southwood, mean they are still in need of another goalkeeper.
If signed, Harrington would likely compete with Sharman-Lowe for minutes, while Luke Hutchinson may remain third choice unless sent out on loan for experience.
In addition to interest from Bolton, Wigan, and Cardiff, Championship club Preston North End are also said to be monitoring Harrington’s situation.
