Leeds United are pleased to confirm the signing of Gabriel Gudmundsson from French side Lille for an undisclosed fee, subject to a work permit and international clearance.
The Swedish left-back is the club’s fourth addition of the summer and has signed a four-year contract, keeping him at Elland Road until 2029.
Gudmundsson arrives after a strong season with Lille, where he made 45 appearances across all competitions, including nine in the UEFA Champions League. During the European campaign, he played a key role as Lille advanced to the round of 16, notably completing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Real Madrid and delivering solid performances against Atlético Madrid, Juventus, and Liverpool.
Capable of playing across various roles on the left flank, the 26-year-old brings both versatility and experience. He began his career with Halmstads BK, scoring 16 goals in 88 games, before moving to the Dutch Eredivisie with FC Groningen. In 2021, he joined then-Ligue 1 champions Lille, amassing close to 150 appearances over four seasons.
An established international, Gudmundsson has earned 15 caps for Sweden, most recently featuring in a 2-0 win over Hungary in June.
