LUTON, July 9, 2025 — In a sensational move that has sent shockwaves through English football, Luton Town have smashed their transfer record with the £25 million signing of a highly-touted teenage prospect.
Under the guidance of manager Rob Edwards, the Hatters continue their strategy of investing in young, emerging talent. The 18-year-old phenom joins Luton despite fierce competition from top Premier League and European clubs. Though the player’s identity is expected to be confirmed later today, insiders are already calling the deal “one of the most thrilling in Luton Town’s history.”
The player, 17, arrives with a growing reputation after making 32 senior appearances for Exeter City — having debuted at just 16 during a Carabao Cup match against Crawley in August 2023.
A product of Exeter’s youth system, he joined the club as an Under-12 and was already making waves in senior friendlies by age 15. He has two goals to his name: one in the EFL Trophy versus Spurs U21s, and another in a League One Boxing Day clash with Bristol Rovers — a game in which he starred alongside fellow Grecians product Milli Alli, now also at Luton.
Recognised for his breakout campaign, Jake earned the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust Young Player of the Season award and was also crowned the LFE League One Apprentice of the Season at the 2025 EFL Awards.
Due to Jake’s age and development at Exeter, the Devon club will receive a training compensation fee, having offered him professional terms prior to his departure.
Luton manager Matt Bloomfield praised the young midfielder:
“Jake faced us twice last season when I was at Wycombe and showed real maturity beyond his years. He’s technically gifted, comfortable in tight spaces, and can play multiple roles — midfield, attacking midfield, or in the number ten. He’s dynamic, versatile, and confident in possession.
“This is a big step in his career, and we’ll make sure he’s supported as he settles in. He’s already been training with us and looks like he belongs.”
Jake, who turns 18 on August 8, completed his transfer with his family present at Luton’s Brache training ground. He shared his excitement:
“I’m over the moon to have signed my first professional contract with such a big club. This is a huge moment for me, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
