The Alabama Crimson Tide boast one of the most talented wide receiver groups in college football, and first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer is determined to maintain that standard. Despite securing the No. 2 recruiting class nationally, per 247Sports, the Tide could use reinforcements at wide receiver. After losing five-star Caleb Cunningham to Ole Miss, Alabama currently has just one receiver commit in the class: three-star Lotzeir Brooks.
However, recent recruiting developments could swing momentum in Alabama’s favor. LSU recently lost five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the nation’s top recruit, to Michigan and is expected to lose four-star wide receiver Derek Meadows as well. While Underwood heading to Michigan eliminates a potential SEC opponent, Meadows reconsidering his commitment provides Alabama with an opportunity to strengthen its receiver class. On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong predicted on Monday, with 60% confidence, that Meadows will flip his commitment to Alabama.
Adding Meadows would be a significant boost for Alabama. The 6-foot-5 wideout from Bishop Gorman High School in Nevada combines size and elite speed and was named Nevada’s 2023 Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year. This past season, Meadows tallied 24 receptions for 598 yards and seven touchdowns, helping the Gaels secure their fourth consecutive state championship.
