Borussia Dortmund are currently leading the race to sign James McAtee from Manchester City, ahead of Premier League sides Fulham and Tottenham. City are asking for £20 million for the 22-year-old midfielder, who has just one year remaining on his contract.
As reported by Graeme Bailey via TBR Football, McAtee looks set to depart the Etihad this summer. Despite being retained by Pep Guardiola last season amid interest from other clubs, the young midfielder was seldom used—mainly coming off the bench with only a few starts—leaving him eager to seek more regular playing time elsewhere.
City have been open to offers since May, and following the conclusion of their Club World Cup campaign, they’re expected to make a decision on McAtee’s future. Both Tottenham and Fulham are monitoring his situation. Spurs are continuing their push to build a youthful squad and see McAtee as a potential fit in their attacking midfield, while Fulham are also keen to strengthen in that area, with Marco Silva reportedly interested in bringing in a creative option.
Borussia Dortmund, however, appear to be frontrunners. The German side have shown consistent interest and are reportedly willing to meet City’s valuation. They’ve already added rising stars like Jobe Bellingham this window and view McAtee as another strong addition to their youth-focused recruitment.
A final decision from McAtee is expected soon, as he weighs up interest from both the Premier League and abroad, with Dortmund currently looking the most likely destination.
