BREAKING NEWS: West Ham sign £30m contract for Mohammed Kudus replacement

West Ham United lost a rare talent in Graham Potter’s squad — one of the few players with the ability to completely change a game in a flash. Mohammed Kudus was among the select few at the club capable of conjuring moments of magic, launching counter-attacks from deep, or posing a real goal-scoring threat.

However, Anton Ferdinand believes the ideal successor might already be at the club — Crysencio Summerville.

In fact, he’s back in the picture quite literally, having returned to Rush Green this week following hamstring surgery.

Ferdinand has thrown his support behind Summerville to step into Kudus’ shoes at West Ham. It’s worth remembering that, prior to his injury in January, the £30 million signing from Leeds United was beginning to show real promise under Potter.

According to a source close to the board, Summerville is not expected to be fully fit until late August or September. Still, after being named Championship Player of the Year just a season ago, Ferdinand is confident that the ex-Feyenoord winger is the man to fill the void left by Kudus.

“I love Kudus as a player. He’s fantastic. But if we need to sell in order to strengthen the squad, and he’s the one to go, then maybe that allows us to bring in multiple new players,” Ferdinand said, shortly before Kudus completed his £54.5 million move to Tottenham.
